About us
Funkytown Percussion was founded in 2025 by a husband-and-wife team of percussion educators and enthusiasts based in Fort Worth, Texas.
We believe that no two percussionists—and no two musical journeys—are exactly alike. With that philosophy at our core, Funkytown Percussion is committed to embracing the individuality of every performer by creating innovative products that are adaptable, reliable, and ready for any playing scenario.
Over the past year, we have researched and tested thousands of concepts, materials, specifications, and design variations to develop what we believe is the most versatile and effective practice pad on the market.
Our flagship innovation is our patent-pending Variable Touch Zone™ (VTZ) technology, which provides a realistic playing response from edge to center. This feature allows percussionists to develop and reinforce consistent muscle memory between the practice pad and the drum, creating a more authentic and effective practice experience.
In addition, Funkytown Percussion practice pads feature revolutionary magnetic Snap Technology, which allows users to quickly remove and interchange rim options to accommodate a variety of playing applications. These rims can be utilized on either side of our dual-sided playing surfaces, offering unparalleled versatility. Following launch, we also plan to introduce several Snap-compatible accessories that will further expand the system’s capabilities.
These innovations are housed within an exceptionally durable and rugged design built to withstand countless hours of practice, rehearsal, performance preparation, and travel.
To celebrate individuality and creativity, Funkytown Percussion will launch with a limited release of exclusive color combinations designed to appeal to a wide range of personalities and styles. Each colorway will be produced in limited quantities, ensuring that every release remains unique and collectible.
Looking ahead, Funkytown Percussion plans to expand beyond practice pads into additional percussion accessories and educational resources that enhance the way percussionists learn, practice, and perform. As educators ourselves, we are committed to keeping music education at the heart of our company. Future initiatives will include instructional publications, virtual learning tools, educational content, and other resources designed to support percussionists at every stage of their development.
Funkytown Percussion is preparing for its official launch in 2026. If selected as recipients of the Steve Weiss Memorial Grant, the funding would allow us to allocate more of our budget toward inventory development and preparation for a PASIC 2026 launch. This support would play a meaningful role in helping us bring our vision to the percussion community.
